Too often classmates say things they think are true when they’re not, and sometimes they don’t even understand what these thigs mean. And quite often if it concerns Israel or Zionism or Judaism, their comments can feel hurtful. In the heat of the moment it’s really hard to have a “comeback” and even harder to think they’ll listen to another point of view. But just so you’ll feel more confident in what you do know, and what the facts really are, look at the entries below in the “How to Respond ….” category. If there are more areas you want to learn about to have a response at the ready, please contact us with your questions and suggestions.

If there is an incident, make sure to report it to your parents, the ADL, to your local Jewish Federation if you have one, and to law enforcement as appropriate.  Your school should also have a policy or code of conduct that also addresses violations and reporting. Speak to a trusted adult at your school and your parent about how to report it.

If you have a local Jewish Community Relations Council, Jewish Federation or other Jewish council they may have the resources to help you meet with your school administration to find solutions and to hold those accountable for their acts.
